Bio:
Sonya Lorelle, Ph.D. received her Ph.D. in Counselor Education from Old Dominion University and her M.S. in Counseling from Missouri State University. She is a licensed professional counselor and has her registered play therapist credential. She has an interest in play therapy, couples therapy, supervision, and neuroscience applications in the counseling field.

Bio:
Katie Atkins earned a PhD in counselor education and supervision and a master’s degree in counseling, both from Northern Illinois University, and a BA in psychology from Roosevelt University. She is a licensed professional counselor, nationally certified counselor, and approved clinical supervisor, and she holds a professional educator license in school counseling. She is a certified advanced grief counseling specialist.

2. Balancing Beneficence and Autonomy in Ethical Counseling

Bio:

Kathryn Steele, PhD, LPC-S, LAMFT-S, served as a Professor of Counseling at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and as Director of Clinical Training for the counseling programs at NOBTS. She is “semi-retired” and still sees clients in Louisiana and Alabama. Steele served on the LPC Board of Louisiana for 8 years, and works primarily with couples, families, and trauma clients.

Description of Session: Participants will discuss and create possible frameworks for balancing beneficence and autonomy in goal setting and treatment planning.

3. Ethical Considerations and Best Practices for Counseling Supervision

She is a National Certified Counselor, as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Board Approved LPC Supervisor in Louisiana. Dr. Ebrahim is a Past President of LCA, and is the current Past President of LACES and Treasurer LMHCA.  She is a former school counselor and has a private practice in Metairie.

Description of Session:

LPC supervisors, faculty supervisors, clinical supervisors, and even supervisees all need to know and understand the expectations and guidelines for ethical behavior when it comes to supervision. This program will review the more common ethical considerations and best practices for ethical supervision including Supervisor Competence, Informed Consent, Gatekeeping and Remediation, Online Supervision, Dual Relationships and Boundary Setting.

Since the pandemic, many of us have altered the way in which we see clients. Although many clients like in person counseling, offering distance counseling enables counselors to offer an alternative way to conduct therapy; one in which there is flexibility for clients who cannot or prefer not to come into a physical office. Best practices, the benefits and risks of practicing teletherapy, ethical and legal implications, managing emergencies and HIPAA compliance. Current LPC Board guidelines for distance counseling will also be discussed.

Staci Whiteside is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor with Appraisal Privilege in the state of Louisiana. She has been in the Mental Health Field for 20 years with expertise in Forensic Counseling (both victim and offender), Assessment and Diagnosis, Ethics, Training, and program implementation. She has worked in the community-based setting, hospitals, and criminal justice/legal agencies. Trained in Forensic Psychology and Counseling Staci has contributed to research on Jury Decision Making, Psychopathy, and Eyewitness Testimony. She currently works for a local Mental Health Rehab agency as well as operates her own private practice and consulting company.

6. Refreshing and Renewing the Practice of Clinical Supervision through the framework of your “Why”

Bio:

Katherine achieved a Masters in Marriage and Family counseling from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary (NOBTS) in 2013. She also achieved additional credits at NOBTS in the Doctoral program. Katherine began working as a counselor at the Eastern Louisiana Baptist Association (ELBA) Christian Counseling Center, a local non-profit organization, until launching Present Hope Counseling, LLC. Katherine is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Katherine has worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, veterans, and first responders. She has been trained in specialty areas such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Emotional-Focused Therapy for couples (EFT), Sand tray, Managing Suicide Risks (CAMS) and Trauma therapy. She has achieved a certification in helping First Responders. Katherine has also worked at the New Orleans Theological Seminary as an Adjunct Professor and Student Supervisor.

Description of Session: To understand the potential implications to the individual practice of Clinical Supervision through the framework of the motivators, values, and goals
